Meet Planet Mom at First Friday

From Otto's Bookstore webpage:
Author Events - Our guest authors for November's First Friday are Melinda Wentzel, Jeanne Wilhelm and Alivia Tagliaferri. Both Melinda and Jeanne have chapters in bigger books of an inspirational nature. Melinda's chapter, "Six Simple Words," is in the book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Divorce and Recovery: 101 Stories about Surviving and Thriving after Divorce. Melinda (also known as "Planet Mom" to those of you who read her column in the Webb) writes about the challenge of trusting yourself when love comes calling again. Jeanne's chapter, "Strawberries in January," is in the book, A Cup of Comfort for Families Touched by Alzheimer's: Inspirational Stories of Unconditional Love and Support. Jeanne writes about the up-side of memory loss! Both have points to ponder. Alivia's book, Still the Monkey: What Happens to Warriors After War, deals primarily with post-traumatic stress disorder. You can meet all of these authors First Friday, November 7, from 5 to 8 at Otto's," a booklover's paradise, in the heart of downtown Williamsport".

You are invited...

Joan Wheal Blank will be presenting a program at the next meeting of the Muncy Historical Society, 40 North Main Street, Muncy, this Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2:30 p.m.

The program will be a past and present photographic tour of the Tri-Town area - Hughesville, Muncy, and Montgomery - using current photos of a variety of homes and businesses and contrasting them with images of the same locations as they appeared during the early 1900s.

The vintage photos that you will see appeared in the postcard history books Around Hughesville and Around Montgomery, which were written by Joan. Vintage images of Muncy were provided by Robin Van Auken, the author of the book Muncy.

Come early for tours of the museum; refreshments will be served following the program. The society will have copies of the postcard history books available for sale.

She has been published in Atlanta Parent Magazine, San Diego Family Magazine, Twins Magazine, Kansas City Parent Magazine, The Williamsport Guardian, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and more. Check out the links to her web site and blog. Hopefully, Melinda will be able to join us in the near future.

The Hemlock

As some of you may know, I am a Lock Haven University alumna. While browsing the LHUP website recently, I came across a very interesting online publication started by several professors and staff of the university. Edited by Bob Myers, chair of the English department, The Hemlock was started to help the Lock Haven University community "develop a deeper sense of place" and create environmental awareness. Although it's a bit specific to the university, I think the online newsletter is something all of us can benefit from reading. I contacted Bob Myers expressing my enthusiasm after reading the first few issues, and I'm going to try to make some contributions to it as part of the "alumni community." If any of you are interested in subscribing to the newsletter, send an email to Bob at rmyers3@lhup.edu.
